Dr. Maria Jose Rendon is a Counseling Psychologist licensed in the state of Maryland (#06138), with more than a decade of clinical experience. Dr. Rendón holds a doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Miami. Dr. Rendón acquired extensive clinical and research training with the culturally diverse communities of South Florida during her doctoral training, with a focus on Latino mental health. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including college counseling, hospital, pediatric, and community-based clinics. In addition, she obtained intensive clinical and research training in the delivery of cognitive behavioral and trauma-resolution interventions for Latino adults with PTSD and associated co-morbidities.
Post-licensure, Dr. Rendon has completed advanced post-doctoral training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for depression, anxiety, and personality disorders at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy and in Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP) for the treatment of OCD at the International OCD Foundation.
Dr. Rendón works with a wide variety of presenting issues. Her areas of expertise include trauma resolution, anxiety, OCD, depression, interpersonal conflict in family and occupational contexts, parenting, ADHD, as well as culture, gender, and sexual orientation issues. Her approach integrates interventions from cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, family systems, and object relations as needed to address the specific concerns brought by the client.
Dr. Rendon is originally from Ecuador and has lived in the U.S. for more than 20 years. She seeks to utilize culturally-sensitive awareness, knowledge and skills to help clients of different ages adjust to life transitions, particularly the challenges of acculturation and multicultural identity that many people experience when moving to the U.S., dating interculturally, or parenting multicultural children. She is passionate about helping people find their own personal strengths to manage life stressors and thrive in their environment.
